The Poetry Bandit, Quick Bio
Jonathan Luiten, single father to three kids aged 13 – 7 years old, took on the persona of Jon Lupin, The Poetry Bandit, in 2014 when he came to the realization that he had to get sober from alcohol and using his love of poetry and writing would be instrumental to getting him there. In addition to recovery meetings, sobriety was achieved July 29, 2015, but along the way he received a diagnosis of OCD, his wife at the time was diagnosed with Bipolar2, his son received an autism diagnosis, and he was a Director of Sales at a midsized insurance brokerage. With pressures mounting on all sides and the spectre of his 14 year marriage coming to a close, the only way he found his sanity and kept sober was by sharing his journey through writing poetry and posting it to Instagram.
During the last 6 years, he self-published a book of poetry (My Sober Little Moon), and was offered a 2 book deal by MacMillan Publishing in NYC. Those 2 books are You Only Love Me When I’m Suffering and Encyclopedia of a Broken Heart and are available in every Target, B&N and online bookstore. Each book deals with a difficult chapter of the past 6 years. Today, Jon lives with his three children in Langley, B.C. and maintains an amicable co-parenting relationship with his ex-wife.
